Glycerin Soaps and Products

Glycerin, also known as glycerol, is colorless, odorless, viscous, sweet-tasting and non-toxic. It is formed in all of our soaps during saponification, when the oils and lye combine. We value the retained glycerin. It is a humectant, which attracts and retains moisture from the air. Glycerin is used in many commercial moisturizers.

Vetiver has long been a popular scent with both women and men, and is often used as the base note in both perfumes and colognes. Vetiver imparts a robust, woody aroma, warm and comforting. In this soap, vetiver is one of three essential oils that complement each other deliciously. Coriander adds a touch of spiciness, may chang a lemony freshness. If you have been a fan of our Indonesian Safflower bar, you’ll also enjoy this close cousin. Vetiver Walnut is more earthy; Indonesian Safflower a bit more floral. Finely ground English walnut shells add a scrub that invigorates and exfoliates your skin as you soap up. You will feel fully clean. To top off your skin care, we have added sweet almond oil for a soothing moisturizer.

Customers have been asking for a vanilla bar for many years but we steadfastly refuse to use synthetic fragrance oils. Recently, however, we have discovered a source for a natural vanilla infusion that we find absolutely delightful. You will too. You will love the homey, fresh baked, mellow fragrance of pure vanilla. Perhaps this is not a bar, but a cake of soap. And making this cake moist and rich is extra virgin organic coconut oil. The coconut also sweetens the vanilla scent. The cakes are a soft caramel color with tiny flecks of ground vanilla beans. Still, they are buttery smooth in texture.

Kokila, commonly called laurel berry, comes from a tree that grows in the Himalayas in Nepal. We combined the sweet bay laurel (Laurus nobilis) and the laurel berry (Cinnamomum glaucescens), two stellar fragrances from the Laurel family. The result: this magically enchanting Sugandh Kokila soap. The fragrance is aromatic and spicy, camphor-like, warm and woody.

Straight from the mountains of Europe comes the essential oil in our irresistible Silver Fir and Lavender. We chose this specific fir from many possible evergreen oils because of its soft, lovely balsam-like fragrance. When the Missouri Botanical Garden asked us to create an exclusive bar honoring its 150th anniversary, we crafted this uniquely herbal and peppery soap. We tested many blends of plant oils to develop the bars sophisticated fragrance. When we were finally satisfied, we sent a bar to perfumer Thierry Masson of La Rochelle, France, to evaluate the scent. He wrote back enthusiastically. This bar has good balance, its woody, fresh and spicy. Each ingredient of the soap reflects the Gardens mission to discover and share knowledge about plants and their environment.
