Glycerin, also known as glycerol, is colorless, odorless, viscous, sweet-tasting and non-toxic. It is formed in all of our soaps during saponification, when the oils and lye combine. We value the retained glycerin. It is a humectant, which attracts and retains moisture from the air. Glycerin is used in many commercial moisturizers.

Our May Chang bar is guaranteed to energize your day and put you in a sunny mood. May Chang smells intensely lemony yet the fragrance is sweeter and fruitier. The bar is smooth and creamy with a golden yellow color from turmeric. What is may chang? It is the common name of Litsea cubeba, a member of the Laurel family growing in East Asia. Its leaves are loaded with citral, which also imparts the scent to lemon verbena. Lemon verbena essential oil, used in perfumes, would be too expensive to use in our soap. Besides, honestly, we think may chang smells brighter and fresher. The first-rate cleansing benefits of this bar work well for face and body. In addition, it is said to relieve oily skin and acne and provide a calming effect on the nervous system.

Legend tells of a queen of Hungary, who, wearing the fragrance at the age of 72, captivated the King of Poland in a romantic liaison. For the next 500 years, until the French started producing eau de Cologne in the Eighteenth Century, no other herb enjoyed the popularity of rosemary either as a scent or as a natural remedy. No wonder one of our most beloved soaps is Rosemary. We blend three essential oils to create this scent. It is predominately rosemary but tempered with lavender and softened with rose-like palmarosa. We use another favorite essential oil, Sugandha Kokila, not well known in the U.S., but treasured in perfumery in this original bar. Kokila, commonly called laurel berry, comes from a tree that grows in the Himalayas in Nepal. We combined the sweet bay laurel (Laurus nobilis) and the laurel berry (Cinnamomum glaucescens), two stellar fragrances from the Laurel family. The result: this magically enchanting Sugandh Kokila soap. The fragrance is aromatic and spicy, camphor-like, warm and woody.

This might be the happiest bar of soap ever, a fragrant marriage of citrusy orange and sweet vanilla. Sniff closely and you will find that the tan swirls smell of vanilla and the bright orange swirls smell like freshly squeezed oranges. Each bar comes out slightly different, some more vanilla, some more orange. Thats the charm of it. To impart the yummy vanilla aroma, we use a natural vanilla infusion made with pods of the orchid Vanilla planifolia. The fresh orange scent comes from 5-fold orange essential oil.

Three different essential oils with the common name of tea tree combine to make this total tea tree bar. The blend of Australian tea tree (Melaleuca alternafolia) with kanuka (Kunzea ericoides) and manuka (Leptospermum scoparium), both from New Zealand, creates a pleasantly herbal aroma, somewhat reminiscent of leather. Tea tree oil is well recognized for its active role in skin care.
