Described as floral, sweet, herbal, woody, green, and fresh, forever favorite lavender tops the list of our most-used essential oil. It compliments many other scents. What's more, the essential oil can benefit the skin in numerous ways. 

Floral Scents

Most natural floral scents are extremely costly, laboriously extracted from the blossoms of roses, lilacs, and such. Lavender oil permeates the entire lavender plant—leaves, stems, and flowers. It can be grown in fields, harvested, then steam distilled. Far more economical.

Lavender and Lavandin

Depending on the product, we use Lavandula angustifolia, known as true lavender or English lavender, or we use Lavandula x intermedia, known as lavandin. Our lavender essential oils come from France, Bulgaria, Spain, and the United States.

The rounds hold firmly together and last a remarkably long time. These large bars, at least 7.5-ounces each, are grooved on the sides to grip the wet soap in the shower. Like all of our soaps, a Terrazzo bar will clean and moisturize your skin perfectly.

Work up a lather and massage the suds into the fur. Avoid soap in the eyes or deep in the ears. Rinse thoroughly. Repeat the wash and rinse if you like. Stand back for the shake-off, then towel dry.

Straight from the mountains of Europe comes the essential oil in our irresistible Silver Fir and Lavender. We chose this specific fir from many possible evergreen oils because of its soft, lovely balsam-like fragrance. To fully develop the bouquet of the soap, we added lavender and a touch of cade (Juniperus oxycedrus)—a smoky, cedar-like essential oil we hadnt offered before. We know many people love our Evergreen bar, which LaRee created years ago. It is an extra-exfoliating bar with oatmeal and seaweed. When the Missouri Botanical Garden asked us to create an exclusive bar honoring its 150th anniversary, we crafted this uniquely herbal and peppery soap. We tested many blends of plant oils to develop the bars sophisticated fragrance. When we were finally satisfied, we sent a bar to perfumer Thierry Masson of La Rochelle, France, to evaluate the scent. He wrote back enthusiastically. This bar has good balance, its woody, fresh and spicy. Each ingredient of the soap reflects the Gardens mission to discover and share knowledge about plants and their environment.

The henna oil we use is different from the powdered henna used for hair color and decorative skin art. We have not seen any sign of staining on skin or washcloths. Rosemary has a long history as a favorite fragrance. Some time in the 1300s, it was the key ingredient in the famous perfume, Hungary water. Legend tells of a queen of Hungary, who, wearing the fragrance at the age of 72, captivated the King of Poland in a romantic liaison. For the next 500 years, until the French started producing eau de Cologne in the Eighteenth Century, no other herb enjoyed the popularity of rosemary either as a scent or as a natural remedy. No wonder one of our most beloved soaps is Rosemary. We blend three essential oils to create this scent. It is predominately rosemary but tempered with lavender and softened with rose-like palmarosa. Your skin will love the Rosemary bar as much as your nose. Finely crumbled rosemary leaves add a bit of texture. A healthy dose of hemp seed oil provides a lavish moisturizer.

Welcome to an extraordinary shower. Luffa soap will quickly become your skins BFF. We’ve incorporated our moisturizing soap into whole natural luffas (also spelled loofah). The ones we use come directly to us from Egypt. Luffa aegyptiaca is a member of the Cucurbitaceae (gourd) family that includes squash, pumpkins and zucchini. When young and tender, sponge gourds are eaten. When mature, they are used for a natural scrub. You will see why luffas have been used for thousands of years. They have a perfect texture for the job: not too rough but just right.
