We Love Lavender

Described as floral, sweet, herbal, woody, green, and fresh, forever favorite lavender tops the list of our most-used essential oil. It compliments many other scents. What's more, the essential oil can benefit the skin in numerous ways. 

Floral Scents

Most natural floral scents are extremely costly, laboriously extracted from the blossoms of roses, lilacs, and such. Lavender oil permeates the entire lavender plant—leaves, stems, and flowers. It can be grown in fields, harvested, then steam distilled. Far more economical.

Lavender and Lavandin

Depending on the product, we use Lavandula angustifolia, known as true lavender or English lavender, or we use Lavandula x intermedia, known as lavandin. Our lavender essential oils come from France, Bulgaria, Spain, and the United States.

The lemony, floral notes of our Italian Bergamot bar come from essential oil of bergamot, extracted from the peel of an orange-like citrus fruit that grows in southern Italy along the Mediterranean coast. The bergamot essential oil we use is bergaptene free so theres no problem in regards to sun exposure. The soft, spicy scents in the soap come from lavender and clove, which blend with the bergamot to make an especially fresh and clean aroma. We add hemp seed oil as a skin softener. Aromatherapists believe that bergamot perks you up when you feel stress and anxiety. We think you will enjoy this delightfully fragrant soap.

We added oatmeal for scrubbing and French green clay for thicker lather. Some customers were so happy with Natural Citronella and Marigold soap they are reluctant to try Campers Choice. For them, we still make the old bar.

Rosemary has a long history as a favorite fragrance. Some time in the 1300s, it was the key ingredient in the famous perfume, Hungary water. Legend tells of a queen of Hungary, who, wearing the fragrance at the age of 72, captivated the King of Poland in a romantic liaison. For the next 500 years, until the French started producing eau de Cologne in the Eighteenth Century, no other herb enjoyed the popularity of rosemary either as a scent or as a natural remedy. No wonder one of our most beloved soaps is Rosemary. We blend three essential oils to create this scent. It is predominately rosemary but tempered with lavender and softened with rose-like palmarosa. Your skin will love the Rosemary bar as much as your nose. Finely crumbled rosemary leaves add a bit of texture. A healthy dose of hemp seed oil provides a lavish moisturizer.

Straight from the mountains of Europe comes the essential oil in our irresistible Silver Fir and Lavender. We chose this specific fir from many possible evergreen oils because of its soft, lovely balsam-like fragrance. To fully develop the bouquet of the soap, we added lavender and a touch of cade (Juniperus oxycedrus)—a smoky, cedar-like essential oil we hadnt offered before. We know many people love our Evergreen bar, which LaRee created years ago. It is an extra-exfoliating bar with oatmeal and seaweed. Silver Fir and Lavender is a smooth, creamy bar with French green clay. The clays micro molecules absorb excess oils, toxins and impurities from your skin, help you treat complexion problems, and tone your skin. Almond oil is added for extra moisturizing. The basis of our Brown Windsor soap comes from Perfumery and Kindred Arts, a Comprehensive Treatise on Perfumery by Richard Cristiani, published in Philadelphia in 1877. Even then, the author referred to the recipe as Old Brown Windsor Soap. The original soap was made in Windsor, England, and exported around the world. Brown Windsor was said to be a favorite of Napoleon, a notorious lover of scent. Cristianis recipe called for lavender, bergamot, caraway, petitgrain, cinnamon, and clove. We tested various proportions of these essential oils and chose the blend we found most satisfying.

In color and scent, Rosy Bouquet comes closest to the fresh bloom of a pink rose. It is musky, sweet, spicy, and heady. We have created this complex scent and beautiful color using six essential oils and pure henna oil. This bar has been years in the making because genuine rose oil would be far too costly to use in a soap and our products never contain synthetic fragrance oils. The henna oil we use is different from the powdered henna used for hair color and decorative skin art. We have not seen any sign of staining on skin or washcloths. You’ll find this bar to be a joy because not only does it smell delightful but also it is extra moisturizing. The smooth bar has no added texture and makes a silky, creamy lather. We invite you to an elegant, deeply satisfying bathing experience.
