When young and tender, sponge gourds are eaten. When mature, they are used for a natural scrub. You will see why luffas have been used for thousands of years. When the Missouri Botanical Garden asked us to create an exclusive bar honoring its 150th anniversary, we crafted this uniquely herbal and peppery soap. We tested many blends of plant oils to develop the bars sophisticated fragrance. When we were finally satisfied, we sent a bar to perfumer Thierry Masson of La Rochelle, France, to evaluate the scent. He wrote back enthusiastically. This bar has good balance, its woody, fresh and spicy. Each ingredient of the soap reflects the Gardens mission to discover and share knowledge about plants and their environment.

Vetiver has long been a popular scent with both women and men, and is often used as the base note in both perfumes and colognes. Vetiver imparts a robust, woody aroma, warm and comforting. In this soap, vetiver is one of three essential oils that complement each other deliciously. Coriander adds a touch of spiciness, may chang a lemony freshness. If you have been a fan of our Indonesian Safflower bar, you’ll also enjoy this close cousin. Vetiver Walnut is more earthy; Indonesian Safflower a bit more floral. Finely ground English walnut shells add a scrub that invigorates and exfoliates your skin as you soap up. You will feel fully clean. To top off your skin care, we have added sweet almond oil for a soothing moisturizer.

Our expeller-pressed sweet Almond Oil makes an excellent massage oil because it absorbs through our pores slowly. Almond Oil is a luxurious, non-greasy moisturizer that leaves your skin soft, silky, and smooth. It is excellent for all skin types (unless you have a nut allergy). We add in some lavender essential oil, an aromatherapeutic treasure. Float a few drops of Almond Oil in your bath. The warm water will gently vaporize the lavender essential oil. Lie back and breathe deeply. Store Almond Oil in a cool place. Compared to our Jojoba Oil, it has a shorter shelf life. That's why we offer it in 2- and 4-ounce bottles.
