“I’ve been enjoying your WONDERFUL soaps and spreading the word to friends and family (my mom loves the soap as well). I knew that if your soaps were half as good as your service, I would be a customer for life.” Sarah Johnson |
All-Natural Ingredients
Olive oil is the primary ingredient of our moisturizing soap. Photo by Josh Vander Velde. Our soap base starts with food grade vegetable oils“My sister's doctor tested the soap against another one she was using. It turned out your soap was free and clear of allergens while the other one she was using, even though it said natural, gave her a reaction. She is glad she can use your soap with confidence.” Laura Hanon "I've done little research on different types of oils and truely believe that you have a great product due to the oils that you do and don't use. Keep up the good work!!" Jennifer Hertel All Herbaria soaps start with olive oil, palm kernel oil and soy oil. Olive oil is renowned for its moisturizing qualities. Palm kernel oil makes our bars hard and long lasting. Soy oil produces a luxurious and copious lather. In the soapmaking process, sodium hydroxide, also called lye, is added to the fats. We know exactly how much lye to use to entirely “saponify” the oils and turn them into a wonderfully gentle soap. No lye remains in the bar. Naturally occurring glycerinGlycerin, a terrific skin softener and emollient, is in every bar. It comes as a natural by-product of “cold process” soapmaking. Glycerin is a humectant, meaning that it draws water from the air. Commercial soap manufacturers remove glycerin for more profitable uses. Some glycerin is often added back to soaps in order to claim glycerin as an ingredient. Don’t be fooled by soaps claiming to be all glycerin. Read their ingredients. They most likely have a long list of chemicals such as alcohol, wetting agents, preservatives and fragrances. “Melt and pour” soaps contain a lot of glycerin but they dissolve rapidly. "Superfatting" emollientsIn addition to a moisturizing base, natural emollients are added for extra moisturizing benefits. This is called “superfatting.” Avocado oil, hemp seed oil, jojoba oil, and shea butter are our emollients of choice for superfatting our bars. Avocado oil

Photo courtesty of Stephen Derived from the nut-like fruit of Simmondsia chinensis, a native shrub of Mexico and the southwest U.S., jojoba oil is actually a liquid wax. Thus it serves as a greaseless lubricant and humectant, holding external moisture to the skin. This is why you frequently see it in shampoo formulations. See all soaps containing jojoba oil.
Shea butter

All-natural essential oils create wonderful fragrances and imbue our bars with healthy benefits. We use no synthetic fragrances, artificial preservatives or colorings. Herbaria soaps use essential oils derived only by steam distillation, expression, or extraction from actual plants. We also use only sustainable scents, not those derived from endangered plants such as sandalwood or rosewood.
"It is odd how the purely natural scents don't bother me at all while many other perfumes and fragrances do." Becky Wong “I've done a little research on different types of oils and truly believe that you have a great product due to the oils that you do and don't use. Keep up the good work!!” Jennifer Hertel Textures & Natural Colorants
Textures make our soaps pleasing to the touch, attractive and exfoliating. Our all natural colorants complement our scents and make our soaps a treat for the eyes.
