5" pieces and whole luffas
Luffas (also spelled loofahs) have been used for bathing since the days of the pharaohs. Indeed, these whole luffas are grown in the Nile Delta of Egypt where they get enough sun to grow to mammoth size. They provide an invigorating, gentle scrub to exfoliate dead skin and leave it glowing. Luffas are the fibrous skeletons of fruits from a vegetable in the cucumber and gourd family. All luffas are not created equal. On the left is Luffa aegyptica, which is soft and gentle when wet. The luffa on the right is L. acutangula, hard and rough. Our luffas are unbleached. They are shipped to you dried and compressed. Soak one in water for a minute and it will expand. A whole luffa expands to 20-26 inches long. Cut it into pieces or use it whole. Many people mistakenly think luffas are sea creatures but they grow on a vine.

The Real Thing

Luffas have been used for bathing since the days of the pharaohs. Indeed, our whole luffas are grown in the Nile Delta of Egypt, where they get enough sun and water to reach mammoth size. They provide an invigorating, gentle scrub to exfoliate dead skin and leave it glowing.

Luffa aegyptica vs L. acutangula

Natural Luffa

Luffas are the fibrous skeletons of fruits from a vegetable in the cucumber and gourd family. The luffa on the right, not ours, is Luffa acutangula, hard and rough, even when wet. On the left is our Luffa aegyptiaca, which is soft and gentle when wet.

Luffa Package

Sizes

Our whole luffas expand to 22-28” long. We offer 5" pieces also. You can cut whole luffas into desired sizes.

All Natural

We prefer these genuine luffas to plastic poufs for numerous reasons—not being plastic is a start. Our luffas are unbleached. They are shipped to you dried and compressed. Soak one in water for a minute or two, and it will swell to full size.

Multi-Use

Besides bathing and showering, use these natural sponges sink-side to scrub pots and pans. You'll find luffas handy for many jobs such as surface cleaning and car washing. They won't scratch—they're kindly abrasive.

Luffa growing

Many people mistakenly think luffas are sea creatures—they grow on a vine.

A Note of Caution

Bacteria can grow on natural luffas, just like plastic poufs and sponges. Occasionally, sterilize either with diluted bleach.
