Glycerin, also known as glycerol, is colorless, odorless, viscous, sweet-tasting and non-toxic. It is formed in all of our soaps during saponification, when the oils and lye combine. We value the retained glycerin. It is a humectant, which attracts and retains moisture from the air. Glycerin is used in many commercial moisturizers.

Thanks to Blake, our soapmaker, for its creation. The scent comes from lime and spearmint essential oils perfectly balanced for a bracing summer treat. The moisturizer in Mojito is luxurious unrefined shea butter. French green clay combines with ground parsley to provide the bright green color and adds an extra creaminess to the lather. This might be the happiest bar of soap ever, a fragrant marriage of citrusy orange and sweet vanilla. Each bar comes out slightly different, some more vanilla, some more orange. Thats the charm of it. To impart the yummy vanilla aroma, we use a natural vanilla infusion made with pods of the orchid Vanilla planifolia. The fresh orange scent comes from 5-fold orange essential oil.

These two ancient fragrances have been revered for over 5,000 years. Renowned as the gift of the Magi to the baby Jesus, and even more valuable than the gold they brought, frankincense and myrrh offered treasures in addition to their heavenly scents. As with all our soaps, Herbaria does not use imitation fragrances. To make this soap, we add genuine steam distilled essential oils imported from Somalia. These costly oils account for the bars premium price. The frankincense is derived from a resin of the Boswellia carterii tree; the myrrh is a resin from the Commifora myrrha tree. Finely ground Rhassoul clay, from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, is marbled into this bar to provide a mineral-rich toner. Shea butter, also from Africa, moisturizes and protects your skin. We believe you will find this soap a royal treasure.

When the Missouri Botanical Garden asked us to create an exclusive bar honoring its 150th anniversary, we crafted this uniquely herbal and peppery soap. We tested many blends of plant oils to develop the bars sophisticated fragrance. When we were finally satisfied, we sent a bar to perfumer Thierry Masson of La Rochelle, France, to evaluate the scent. He wrote back enthusiastically. This bar has good balance, its woody, fresh and spicy. Each ingredient of the soap reflects the Gardens mission to discover and share knowledge about plants and their environment.

The bright yellow color of our Saffron Gold comes from Spanish saffron. You can see its yellow-orange threads throughout the bright yellow bar. This treasured spice in the soap adds a sensuous scent to the citrusy blend of nine essential oils. This soap not only looks and smells good, its also really good for you. Saffron Gold is superfatted with mango butter, expeller pressed from the seeds of mangos. The butter softens, soothes and moisturizes dry skin. Saffron is one of the plants used to dye the robes of Buddhist monks. If you see a bit of yellow on your washcloth, try laundering it with oxygen bleach.
