Indonesian Safflower makes people crazy. In addition to the lovely safflower blossoms scattered throughout the bar, it contains a heady blend of sweet basil, ylang ylang, vetiver and patchouli. It's our strongest scented soap. After a bath with this, you'll be looking for your sari. Basil oil is said to aid concentration and clarify the mind and ylang ylang is reputed to stimulate the senses and induce feelings of well-being. Very spicy and warming, like cookies in the oven. Originally a holiday inspiration, folks demanded this soap all year 'round. It contains essential oils of nutmeg, clove leaf, cinnamon leaf, orange and tangerine, plus ground cinnamon for color. It's also superfatted with shea butter.

The lemony, floral notes of our Italian Bergamot bar come from essential oil of bergamot, extracted from the peel of an orange-like citrus fruit that grows in southern Italy along the Mediterranean coast. The bergamot essential oil we use is bergaptene free so theres no problem in regards to sun exposure. The soft, spicy scents in the soap come from lavender and clove, which blend with the bergamot to make an especially fresh and clean aroma. We add hemp seed oil as a skin softener. Aromatherapists believe that bergamot perks you up when you feel stress and anxiety. We think you will enjoy this delightfully fragrant soap.

As in premium licorice candy, star anise is what powers the aromatic olfactory pleasure. Then we added real licorice root to the soap. Thirdly, you will also smell the delicate fragrance of coconut. The ones we use come directly to us from Egypt. Luffa aegyptiaca is a member of the Cucurbitaceae (gourd) family that includes squash, pumpkins and zucchini. When young and tender, sponge gourds are eaten. When mature, they are used for a natural scrub. You will see why luffas have been used for thousands of years. They have a perfect texture for the job: not too rough but just right.

Our May Chang bar is guaranteed to energize your day and put you in a sunny mood. May Chang smells intensely lemony yet the fragrance is sweeter and fruitier. The bar is smooth and creamy with a golden yellow color from turmeric. What is may chang? It is the common name of Litsea cubeba, a member of the Laurel family growing in East Asia. Its leaves are loaded with citral, which also imparts the scent to lemon verbena. Lemon verbena essential oil, used in perfumes, would be too expensive to use in our soap. Besides, honestly, we think may chang smells brighter and fresher. The first-rate cleansing benefits of this bar work well for face and body. In addition, it is said to relieve oily skin and acne and provide a calming effect on the nervous system.

Thanks to Blake, our soapmaker, for its creation. The scent comes from lime and spearmint essential oils perfectly balanced for a bracing summer treat. The moisturizer in Mojito is luxurious unrefined shea butter. French green clay combines with ground parsley to provide the bright green color and adds an extra creaminess to the lather. We rejoice in the effort to normalize relations between the U.S. and Cuba. If you get to visit, take some extra bars for the Cubanos. They'll certainly appreciate it.

There's old-time goodness in this all-vegetable Castile soap. Old Fashioned Lye Soap is great for bathing, shampooing, and washing clothes. Its only scent is the pure, clean soap smell. The old soap-making process we use retains natural glycerin. We don't want to brag, but this is probably a finer soap than Grandma used to make. We start with fresh food-grade oils in our bars. Together they make a bar that is moisturizing, that lathers well, and is long-lasting.
