Many fans of our bestselling Lavender Oatmeal asked also for a smooth, non-textured lavender bar. In response, we have crafted our French Lavender soap with some highly pleasing differences. The fragrance of our Lavender Oatmeal comes from the popular cultivar of lavender called lavendula. By contrast, the slightly sweeter fragrance of our French Lavender bar comes from an essential oil blend of French, Italian and prized Bulgarian lavender. The Lavender Oatmeal bar is naturally white. While we never use artificial color in our soaps, we are particularly delighted we were able to create a natural purple hue for our French Lavender bar. Wild-harvested alkanet (Batschia canescens) makes the soft lilac color. The French Lavender bar contains sweet almond oil as an emollient. It will leave your skin feeling clean and soft, as all our soaps do.

Our May Chang bar is guaranteed to energize your day and put you in a sunny mood. May Chang smells intensely lemony yet the fragrance is sweeter and fruitier. The bar is smooth and creamy with a golden yellow color from turmeric. What is may chang? It is the common name of Litsea cubeba, a member of the Laurel family growing in East Asia. Its leaves are loaded with citral, which also imparts the scent to lemon verbena. Lemon verbena essential oil, used in perfumes, would be too expensive to use in our soap. Rosemary has a long history as a favorite fragrance. Some time in the 1300s, it was the key ingredient in the famous perfume, Hungary water. Legend tells of a queen of Hungary, who, wearing the fragrance at the age of 72, captivated the King of Poland in a romantic liaison. For the next 500 years, until the French started producing eau de Cologne in the Eighteenth Century, no other herb enjoyed the popularity of rosemary either as a scent or as a natural remedy. No wonder one of our most beloved soaps is Rosemary. We blend three essential oils to create this scent. It is predominately rosemary but tempered with lavender and softened with rose-like palmarosa. Recently, however, we have discovered a source for a natural vanilla infusion that we find absolutely delightful. You will too. You will love the homey, fresh baked, mellow fragrance of pure vanilla. Perhaps this is not a bar, but a cake of soap. And making this cake moist and rich is extra virgin organic coconut oil. The coconut also sweetens the vanilla scent. The cakes are a soft caramel color with tiny flecks of ground vanilla beans. Still, they are buttery smooth in texture.

Straight from the mountains of Europe comes the essential oil in our irresistible Silver Fir and Lavender. We chose this specific fir from many possible evergreen oils because of its soft, lovely balsam-like fragrance. To fully develop the bouquet of the soap, we added lavender and a touch of cade (Juniperus oxycedrus)—a smoky, cedar-like essential oil we hadnt offered before. We know many people love our Evergreen bar, which LaRee created years ago. It is an extra-exfoliating bar with oatmeal and seaweed. Silver Fir and Lavender is a smooth, creamy bar with French green clay. The clays micro molecules absorb excess oils, toxins and impurities from your skin, help you treat complexion problems, and tone your skin. Almond oil is added for extra moisturizing. You will adore this silvery-green bar.

We use another favorite essential oil, Sugandha Kokila, not well known in the U.S., but treasured in perfumery in this original bar. Kokila, commonly called laurel berry, comes from a tree that grows in the Himalayas in Nepal. We combined the sweet bay laurel (Laurus nobilis) and the laurel berry (Cinnamomum glaucescens), two stellar fragrances from the Laurel family. The result: this magically enchanting Sugandh Kokila soap. The fragrance is aromatic and spicy, camphor-like, warm and woody.
