Many fans of our bestselling Lavender Oatmeal asked also for a smooth, non-textured lavender bar. In response, we have crafted our French Lavender soap with some highly pleasing differences. The fragrance of our Lavender Oatmeal comes from the popular cultivar of lavender called lavendula. By contrast, the slightly sweeter fragrance of our French Lavender bar comes from an essential oil blend of French, Italian and prized Bulgarian lavender. The Lavender Oatmeal bar is naturally white. While we never use artificial color in our soaps, we are particularly delighted we were able to create a natural purple hue for our French Lavender bar. Wild-harvested alkanet (Batschia canescens) makes the soft lilac color. The French Lavender bar contains sweet almond oil as an emollient. It will leave your skin feeling clean and soft, as all our soaps do.

The lemony, floral notes of our Italian Bergamot bar come from essential oil of bergamot, extracted from the peel of an orange-like citrus fruit that grows in southern Italy along the Mediterranean coast. The bergamot essential oil we use is bergaptene free so theres no problem in regards to sun exposure. The soft, spicy scents in the soap come from lavender and clove, which blend with the bergamot to make an especially fresh and clean aroma. We add hemp seed oil as a skin softener. Aromatherapists believe that bergamot perks you up when you feel stress and anxiety. We think you will enjoy this delightfully fragrant soap.

The romantic scent of this soap will brighten your spirits as you clean and moisturize your skin. The natural fragrance comes from the essential oil of Egyptian rose geranium. Palmarosa, another rosy-scented essential oil, moderates the sweetness to create a fuller and more complex aroma. The Rose Geranium bar is one of our few floral-scented soaps. We cannot use real rose extractions because they are prohibitively expensive, added only to costly perfumes. And our products never contain synthetic fragrance oils. Soothing, and gentle enough for sensitive skin, this soap promotes the body's natural ability to balance oil production. We add French pink clay not only to create the lovely pink color but also to provide its softening and conditioning qualities. Our emollient in this bar is avocado oil.

The basis of our Brown Windsor soap comes from Perfumery and Kindred Arts, a Comprehensive Treatise on Perfumery by Richard Cristiani, published in Philadelphia in 1877. Even then, the author referred to the recipe as Old Brown Windsor Soap. The original soap was made in Windsor, England, and exported around the world. Brown Windsor was said to be a favorite of Napoleon, a notorious lover of scent. Cristianis recipe called for lavender, bergamot, caraway, petitgrain, cinnamon, and clove. We tested various proportions of these essential oils and chose the blend we found most satisfying.

This bar has been years in the making because genuine rose oil would be far too costly to use in a soap and our products never contain synthetic fragrance oils. The henna oil we use is different from the powdered henna used for hair color and decorative skin art. We have not seen any sign of staining on skin or washcloths. You’ll find this bar to be a joy because not only does it smell delightful but also it is extra moisturizing. The smooth bar has no added texture and makes a silky, creamy lather. To remove oils and impurities from your skin, we've added micronized Rhassoul clay. It serves as a natural, gentle exfoliant.
