Friend of Herbaria and local artist, James McKenzie, has graced our store with his custom-carved wooden soap dishes. James uses a digital router to carve each piece to exacting specifications. The result is a beautiful piece worthy to hold something as good as our soap. They are finished with food-grade mineral oil. This is the same finish found on a butcher block or cutting board. The soap dishes are 4.25" in width (front face) by 3.25" in depth and 2" tall. All the current stock is made of maple wood.

Each stack purchased counts as one bar toward our free bar offer. Sampler Stacks contain random selections. A label identifies the varieties. We don't include dog shampoo or scent-free bars. Although we do not offer custom selections, we will be sure you get different mixes if you order more than one. Where do the ends come from? We make our soap in large block molds. We slice the blocks into logs and then we cut the logs into bars. There are two ends left from each log, like heels from a loaf of bread.

Each tube contains seven sticks, and each stick burns for about an hour. They are quite fragrant. You may choose to burn just a part of a stick at a time.

All are made with the powdered bark of the makko tree, Machillus thunbergii. This bark is naturally combustible—no need for charcoal or saltpeter. There is no punk stick to burn as the incense dough is extruded and hand-cut, resulting in pure, resinous, and herbal material.

Finely ground Rhassoul clay, from the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, is marbled into this bar to provide a mineral-rich toner. Shea butter, also from Africa, moisturizes and protects your skin. Many fans of our bestselling Lavender Oatmeal asked also for a smooth, non-textured lavender bar. In response, we have crafted our French Lavender soap with some highly pleasing differences. The fragrance of our Lavender Oatmeal comes from the popular cultivar of lavender called lavendula. By contrast, the slightly sweeter fragrance of our French Lavender bar comes from an essential oil blend of French, Italian and prized Bulgarian lavender. The Lavender Oatmeal bar is naturally white. While we never use artificial color in our soaps, we are particularly delighted we were able to create a natural purple hue for our French Lavender bar. Wild-harvested alkanet (Batschia canescens) makes the soft lilac color. The French Lavender bar contains sweet almond oil as an emollient. It will leave your skin feeling clean and soft, as all our soaps do.
